Settling in

The runway: Prior to landing in Kuujjuarapik, I was wondering how a small airport would keep the runway clear of ice. Turns out that's not really an issue when the runway is made of ice! The aircraft landed with no problems :)

Some of the roads here are gravel, some are asphalt. But in the snow and ice none of that matters! The skidoo tracks have made enough dents in the frozen compacted snow/ice to give you grip when walking. Most people zip around on skidoos here. Thankfully they make a lot of noise so you can hear them through all the layers of insulation.

Home, sweet home for the next 6 weeks. The Centre d'études nordiques (CEN) at Kuujjuarapik. Everyone here has been so helpful and welcoming. Ginette, our unbelievably enthusiastic cook is great! But her great cooking is going to play havoc with my plan to loose weight (all of which I put on during the last campaign!)

If you want to use a door that is not used frequently, then you have to start digging!
